Facility Safety Management Magazine (one of our booth neighbours)

As experts in safety and inspection management software, we would be nothing without the manufacturers, distributors, inspectors, and safety managers we serve every day. Naturally, we’ve had the opportunity to meet with many new and familiar names in the industry at NSC 2011 this week. There are literally thousands of great exhibitors and attendees walking the Expo floor, checking out the sessions, and spreading the word about new ideas and products in safety management.

Three days at the NSC Congress and Expo is an intense experience. We’ve attended for several years now, and we know the work that goes into participation at the Congress and Expo. While it would be impossible to profile everyone here on the Expo floor, we’d like to recognize some of our immediate neighbours. Everyone around us has done a great job, so drop by and visit these fine exhibitors at NSC 2011 if you’re in the neighbourhood.

Facility Safety Management Magazine, at Booth #2548, is a monthly magazine focusing on workplace safety and risk free maintenance.

Abus Lock Company, at Booth #2544, is the first manufacturer to launch an environmentally friendly “green” line of safety lockout products, called the Ecolution Series. This includes padlocks, hasps, labels and safety kits.

Bullard, at Booth #2555, is the leading manufacturer of personal protective equipment and systems worldwide. Product lines include powered-air purifying respirators, air quality equipment, firefighter helmets, thermal imagers, hard hats and rescue helmets.

TRS-Environmental, at Booth #2553, is a leading source for renting or purchasing environmental equipment. The company stocks a wide variety of monitors, detectors, analyzers, samplers and supplies.

Wuyi Shunfa Garment Factory, at Booth #2549, manufactures high-visibility safety clothing, including safety vests, workwear and raincoats.

Essilor Prescription Safety Eyewear, at Booth #2545, provides prescription safety eyeglasses, both on a local and national level.

And while the final day of the largest gathering of health and safety professionals in North America has now arrived, there’s still time to drop by the Field ID booth (#2552) to meet with us and talk automated safety and inspection management, and enter for a chance to win a free iPad 2.

Thanks to our booth neighbours and the National Safety Council for another great Congress and Expo!

Safety management in the spotlight

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

With the NSC 2011 Congress and Expo underway, it’s a fitting time and place to recognize the successes and excellence in safety management achieved by safety leaders and organizations across the continent. Naturally, it’s a great place to find safety thought leadership. EHS Today, Canadian Occupational Safety, and others around the web have been highlighting some of this year’s big ideas and accolades already. Yesterday, the NSC handed out several awards recognizing those who have demonstrated leadership and dedication to safety, and today we thought the Field ID blog is a great place to tip our hats to the winners.

Here are a few highlights:

National Safety Council announces The Dow Chemical Company as Green Cross for Safety Medal recipient

The National Safety Council presented the 2012 Green Cross for Safety medal to The Dow Chemical Company for its comprehensive commitment to safety excellence. Each year, the NSC gives this medal to an organization that has distinguished itself over a period of years for outstanding achievements in workplace safety, community service, environmental stewardship and responsible citizenship. The announcement was made during yesterday’s Opening Session of the 2011 NSC Congress and Expo. The medal will be officially presented to Dow’s Chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris at the Green Cross for Safety dinner in spring 2012.

National Safety Council names UTC Fire & Security winner of Robert W. Campbell Award

The NSC presented UTC Fire & Security with its 2011 Robert W. Campbell Award yesterday. The award recognizes organizations that integrate environmental, health and safety (EHS) management with business operations as a cornerstone of success. Last year, this award went to Dow. The award is underwritten by the Exxon Mobil Corporation and named for Robert W. Campbell, a safety pioneer and the first president of the National Safety Council.

Five safety professionals receive Distinguished Service to Safety Award

At the opening session of the NSC Congress and Expo yesterday, five safety professionals received the Distinguished Service to Safety Award. NSC President and CEO Janet Froetcher recognized these safety professionals for having “dedicated their lives to preventing injuries and deaths.” Distinguished Service to Safety Award winners included: Joseph A. Branco, CSP, CUSA, Corporate Safety Manager, Quanta Services, Inc.; Gary Catapano, Sr. Vice President of Safety, FirstGroup, North American Operations; J. We take safety management and inspections very seriously, but we also have fun doing what we do – and as many of our regular readers and customers know, part of the fun is in getting out of the office and meeting face-to-face with safety managers from across North America to talk about how safety inspection software can help make safety simple.

Having just returned from this month’s AWRF meeting, we’re very excited about getting out of the office again for one of the biggest safety events of the calendar year: the National Safety Council’s annual Congress and Expo (Congress: October 31 – November 4, Expo: October 31 – November 2). The 2011 NSC Congress and Expo promises to be a great opportunity to gather with more than 12,000 health and safety management professionals in Philadelphia.

We’ll have mobile devices onsite to showcase the barcode and RFID options that come with Field ID. This year we are giving away our new “No Clipboards” tshirts and iPad 2′s, so make sure you visit our booth!

This year, Field ID will be well represented at booth #2552. Myself and Shaun Ricci, COO, will be onsite for the conference.

Field ID at AWRF in Kansas City

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

I Heart AWRFLast week Somen and I attended the  AWRF (Associated Wire Rope Fabricators) meeting in Kansas City.  This is not our first time at AWRF, we try to be active members.  Participating in industry associations like AWRF is important not only because we have the opportunity to spend time with customers, but also because we can keep on top of trends and changes related to safety and inspections of lifting and rigging equipment.

Day 1 – Setting up the Booth

As usual, the first day of any trade show type event was very busy.  We caught a 9:00 am flight from Toronto to Kansas (yup, that’s a 6:00 am wake up call – on a Sunday!).  This had us in Kansas City shortly after noon.  We headed to Best Buy to pick up a few last minute electronics for our booth.  We then arrived at the hotel and started immediately to set up for the Monday Product Information Exhibit (or P.I.E).  After the trade show was set up the opening night reception kicked off.  The opening night reception is always a lot of fun as we get to see friends and customers that we have not seen in a while.  We ended off day 1 having dinner with one of our tagging partners, Holland 1916.

Day 2 – Product Exhibition

Time to show off the upgraded Field ID booth!  We made a few additions and changes to the booth this year.  This included changing out the back drop of the main section and adding a kiosk as well.  Our ” no clipboard” campaign is well represented.  Check below for some before and after shots of the booth.  It’s amazing how much can change in a year.

The P.I.E was a jam packed 7 hours.  We were busy almost the entire time.  The awareness and knowledge level of RFID and inspection software to manage lifting and gear is noticeably higher than when we started attending AWRF meetings.  This was also the biggest P.I.E in AWRF history with almost 100 booths being filled.

Day 3 – Reception

Day 3 at AWRF typically has activities for the AWRF members to participate in such as the fun run/walk/jog.  This year, our tag partner mentioned above (Holland 1916) arranged for tours of their manufacturing facility.  This makes perfect sense given that Kansas City is their home town. The tour was very educational, and more importantly they served us Kansas BBQ at the end of the tour.  Finally, AWRF wrapped up the same way every AWRF does, with a banquet dinner.  The banquet this year was quite large and the entertainment was great.

All in all this was one of the biggest and most productive AWRF meetings for us at Field ID.  It’s amazing how this association has such a sense of community.  It was only a few years ago that we attended our first AWRF and the amount of friends we have in this association now is amazing.  They association does amazing work for the lifting and rigging industry and we can’t wait to attend the next AWRF in Atlanta.
