A new campaign for fall prevention in construction

A fall fatality map produced by the Stop Construction Falls campaign. The map pinpoints recorded fall fatalities in the U.S. and can be viewed interactively at StopConstructionFalls.com.

There’s a new campaign underway to raise awareness about safety in the construction industry – spectifically, fall prevention – and it’s a joint effort by three organizations we sometimes reference here at Modern Safety. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and CPWR — The Center for Construction Research and Training – recently announced the launch of a nationwide construction fall prevention campaign. Doing business in these industries means ongoing attention to compliance with rules from OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration), MSHA (the Mine Safety and Health Administration), and various State and Provincial regulatory bodies across the United States and Canada. Safety systems in offshore – the times they are a changin’

Better safety systems are needed in the offshore oil and gas industry, and the industry’s top regulator says that some changes will be coming. Some changes will improve upon rules and regs that are decades old. James Watson, Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, delivered this news today at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), one of the world’s main events for people in offshore drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection. Taking rugged iPhone cases a little too far?

As our team puts the final touches on what will be the most robust and easy-to-use iPhone inspection software on the market, many of us at Field ID have comes across different types of cases and protection options for the device. Many of our users work in rugged environments, so the proper protection of an iPhone, for some, is just important as its ease-of-use for inspections and safety management.

Mining leaders set “zero harm” safety goal

Ontario Mining AssociationMining industry leaders in Ontario have set a goal of reaching “zero harm” by 2015. About 30 mine managers and safety specialists attended a recent one-day safety summit in Sudbury with the Ontario Mining Association (OMA). According to the OMA, the group was “seeking new answers and new ideas.” (more…)
